GLOSSARY

Robot operating envelope

An operating envelope is the boundary around platform, environment and mission conditions where the system can complete its task with the required physical margins.

What shapes the envelope

Geometry, speed, stopping distance, localization quality, wind, moving people, payload, battery state and mission intent can all move the boundary.

How failure reveals the boundary

Repeated trials reveal where clearance collapses, deviation grows, collisions occur, or the mission becomes blocked under defined assumptions.

Why guardrails matter

Guardrails keep a planner or controller away from known failure regions and provide a rule that can be verified, reviewed and exported.
